Propage fig trees – cutting fig trees

Fig trees are beautiful and delicious plants that can be propagated very easily from cuttings. The cutting of fig trees is an economical and ecological method to multiply your plants and enjoy their beauty and fruits. Here is a step-by-step guide to effectively cutting your fig trees:

Materials required:

  • Clean and sharp gardening scissors
  • Light and well drained soil
  • Roots (cutting hormone)
  • Individual pots
  • Transparent plastic bag or mini-serre

Steps of cutting:

1. Choosing cuttings: Select branches 15-20 cm long, with at least 3 deciduous knots. Take the cuttings with clean scissors, making sure to cut just below a knot.

2. Preparation of cuttings: Remove the leaves from the lower node to expose part of the stem. Soak the lower end of the cutting in powder of auxin to promote rooting.

3. Planting of cuttings: Plant the cuttings in individual pots filled with light, well drained soil. Thread the cuttings a few centimetres into the substrate and settle slightly.

4. Watering: Water the cuttings generously to moisten the substrate. Make sure to maintain constant humidity without flooding the cuttings.

5. Cut protection: Place the pots in a transparent plastic bag to create a greenhouse effect. This will promote root formation. Make sure to aerate regularly to avoid any risk of rot.

6. Rooting: The cuttings will develop roots within a few weeks. To check rooting, pull the cutting gently. If you feel resistance, it is a sign that the roots have formed.

7. Transplantation: Once the cuttings have developed roots, they are ready to be transplanted into larger pots or directly into the ground.

By following these simple steps, you can effectively cut your fig trees and enjoy new healthy and vigorous plants. Cutting is a rewarding method that will allow you to multiply your favorite plants without spending a lot of money. Don’t hesitate to share your cutting success with other plant enthusiasts!
