A simple method for grafting a mango on an onion into a glass of water

Transplantation is a common technique used to combine the desired characteristics of two different plants. In this article we will show you how to graft a mango on an onion using a glass of water. This method is simple and effective, and can be done at home with a minimum of equipment. Follow the steps below to create your own mango transplant on an onion:

Materials required:

  • A young-growth mango tree
  • Onion
  • A glass of water
  • A sharp knife
  • Tooth cures

Steps to follow:

  1. Start by choosing a young mango grower to transplant. Make sure it is about 15 cm long and has at least one or two leaves.
  2. Prepare the onion by cutting it in half lengthwise.
  3. Remove the centre of the onion to insert the mango tree stem. Make sure you create sufficient space for the stem to easily insert.
  4. Take the mango tree and cut the base into bevels with a sharp knife. This will facilitate the insertion of the stem into the onion.
  5. Carefully insert the stem of the young mango tree shoot into the onion opening. Make sure it is fixed in place.
  6. Place the onion with the mango tree stem in a glass of water. Make sure the stem is partially immersed in water.
  7. Change the water regularly to avoid mould and make sure the stem receives enough indirect light.

This method of grafting may take a few weeks before the first roots appear. Once the roots develop, you can transfer the plant to a pot with a suitable substrate for the continuous growth of the mango tree.
