Explosion of colors with hibiscus: try mixing varieties on a single stem
The hibiscus is a beautiful plant that spreads in a variety of bright colors. For an even more spectacular effect, why not try to mix different varieties of dihibiscus on a single stem? This technique, called graft, allows to create a real fireworks of colors in your garden or on your terrace.
Here is how to do this fascinating operation:
Equipment requirements:
- Dihibiscus plants of different varieties
- Scissors for grafting
- Plug-in block
- Transparent plastic film
- Good quality soil
Steps to follow:
- Choose dihibiscus plants of different varieties from which you wish to make the mixture. Make sure they are healthy and well developed.
- Prepare the rootstock by choosing a healthy and vigorous plant that will serve as a support for the grafts. Cut it to the desired height to accommodate the plugins.
- Remove grafts from the selected hibiscus plants. The grafts must be collected with part of the previous year’s wood to ensure a good recovery. Cut them in a bias to facilitate the transplant.
- Place the graft in the rootstock, ensuring that the cambial tissues are well aligned to ensure good welding. Attach the plugin with transparent plastic film to maintain pressure.
- Place the grafted rootstock in a graft block filled with wet soil. Make sure to maintain good moisture to promote recovery.
- After a few weeks, when the transplant has taken place and new shoots appear, remove the plastic film and let the plant develop normally.
By doing this grafting operation, you could get a unique d的hibiscus plant, with flowers of different colors that bloom on a single stem. This effect of explosion of colors will not fail to attract all eyes and bring a touch of originality to your garden.
Don’t forget to maintain your grafted hibiscus by offering it regular watering, sun exposure and suitable fertilization. With a little care, your floral creation will not fail to amaze you throughout the flowering season.
