How to grow a Goyavier by aerial marcottage

Air marcottage is an effective method of spreading a goyavier. Here is how to proceed:

  • Choose a healthy and vigorous branch of the parent tree to perform the marcottage.
  • Make an incision around the branch, taking care not to cut it completely.
  • Wrap this part of the branch with a moist substrate such as peat moss or sphagnum.
  • Then wrap with a plastic film to maintain moisture.
  • After a few weeks, roots will begin to form. Once they are sufficiently developed, you can separate the new plant from the parent tree and replant it in a suitable soil.
  • Make sure to water the new plant regularly to promote its growth.

Grow a goyavier from cuttings

Multiplication by cutting is another method for obtaining new goyaviers. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Take cuttings from the mother tree, preferably young and unligified stems.
  • Soak the base of the cuttings in cutting hormone to promote rooting.
  • Plant the cuttings in a light, well drained soil.
  • Place the cuttings in a bright place but away from the direct sun.
  • Be sure to keep the soil moist without soaking it.
  • After a few weeks, cuttings should begin to develop roots. Once well formed, you can transplant the young plants into individual pots.

Air Marcottage of the Goyavier

Air marcottage is particularly suitable for hard-to-cut species. Here is how to deal specifically with a goyavier:

  • Choose a branch that is flexible enough to perform the aerial marcottage.
  • Incorporate peat moss at the level of the branch you want to marcott.
  • Wrap the foam with clear plastic to maintain moisture and promote rooting.
  • Wait for roots to form, which can take several weeks depending on environmental conditions.
  • When the roots are sufficiently developed, you can cut the branch below the marcottage point and replant the new shoot in a pot with a good soil.
  • Water your new plant regularly and place it in a bright place without direct sunlight.
