Easily multiply Ixora/Rangan plants from cuttings in water!
Ixora plants, also known as Rangan, are beautiful flowering plants that can bring a touch of color and beauty to any garden. If you want to multiply your plants in a simple and efficient way, cutting propagation in water is an ideal method to try. Follow these simple steps to multiply your plants successfully:
1. Preparation of cuttings
Start by choosing healthy and vigorous stems on your plant from Ixora. Ideally, choose stems that are not in bloom to increase the chances of successful propagation. Cut cuttings about 10-15 cm long using clean and sharp tools.
2. Remove lower leaves
Carefully remove the lower leaves from each cutting, leaving only a few leaves on the upper part. This will allow the cutting to devote its energy to developing new roots rather than feeding the leaves.
3. Drain cuttings in water
Fill a transparent vase or similar container with clean water at room temperature. Place the cuttings in the water so that the lower nodes are completely submerged. Make sure you change the water every few days to avoid stagnation.
4. Fostering rooting
Place the vase containing the cuttings in a bright but indirect place, sheltered from direct sunlight. Roots will begin to form within a few weeks of watering. Monitor the water regularly to make sure it stays clean.
5. Transfer to soil”
- Once the cuttings have developed robust roots a few centimetres long, it is time to transfer them to a light and well drained soil.
- Fill small pots with soil suitable for Ixora plants and make a small hole to gently insert each cutting.
- Lightly water the freshly planted cuttings and place them in a bright place but protected from direct sunlight.
6. Post-transplantation care
- Continue to monitor your cuttings carefully after transplanting them. Make sure to keep the soil slightly moist but not wet, and avoid excess watering.
- Freshly planted cuttings may need a few weeks to settle completely. Be patient and continue to provide optimal lighting and growth conditions.
