How to spread a goyavier from cuttings and grow it
1. Choice of Goyavier cuttings
The first step in spreading a goyavier from cuttings is to select healthy, vigorous branches to achieve better results. Ideally, choose Goyavier cuttings about 15-20 cm long and remove the leaves from the bottom third of the cutting.
2. Preparation of cuttings
Before planting the cuttings, make sure to soak them in water for a few hours to promote water absorption. Then you can apply rooting hormone on the basis of cuttings to stimulate root formation.
3. Planting cuttings
Plant the goyavier cuttings in a light and well drained mixture of soil. Be sure to bury the cuttings about a third of their length. Keep the soil moist but not wet and place the cuttings in a place sheltered from the wind and sunny.
4. Maintenance of cuttings
Make sure that cuttings are watered regularly to maintain wet soil and promote rooting. You can also protect cuttings from high heats by shaded them slightly. Avoid excess water that could cause cutting rot.
5. Transplantation of cuttings
After a few weeks, cuttings should start forming roots. You can then transfer them to larger individual pots to promote their development. Make sure to gradually acclimatize them in brighter conditions.
6. Goyavier culture from cuttings
Once the cuttings have developed a solid root system, you can transplant them into the soil of your garden or into larger pots. Goyaviers prefer a well drained soil, rich in organic matter and a sunny location.
- Be sure to water young goyavier plants regularly, especially during dry periods.
- Bring a balanced fertilizer specific to fruit trees to promote the growth and fruiting of goyaviers.
- Cut dead or sick branches to stimulate the production of new shoots.
- Protect the goyaviers from strong winds and frosts by mulching or covering them with a winter veil if necessary.
