How to grow mini tagar from cuttings in sand

The mini tagar, also known as Tagetes, are beautiful flowering plants that can be grown from cuttings in sand. Here is a practical guide to help you succeed in this multiplication method:

Materials required:

  • Mini Tagar Buttons
  • Sand
  • Planting pot
  • Water

Steps to follow:

1. Prepare your cuttings by choosing healthy and vigorous mini tagar stems. Cut them with a clean secateur to obtain cuttings about 10 cm in length.

2. Fill a plantation pot with clean, well drained sand. Wet the sand slightly to make it moist enough.

3. Make a hole in the sand using a stick or pencil, then gently insert the cutting into the hole ensuring that it is firmly in contact with the sand.

4. Place the plantation pot in a bright place but in direct sunlight. Keep the sand moist by watering slightly regularly.

5. Roots should begin to form in the following weeks. You can check by gently pulling the cutting to see if it resists, indicating that the roots have developed.

6. Once the roots are well established, you can transplant your mini tagar into a rich and well drained soil to keep it growing.

Practical tips:

  • Choose healthy cuttings to increase the chances of success of your spread.
  • Be careful not to water the cuttings too much, as excess moisture can cause them to rot.
  • Maintain a constant temperature around the cuttings to promote root formation.
  • Protect cuttings from strong winds that could damage them during their development phase.
