Choosing a pot of water

Lamaryllis is a popular indoor plant thanks to its beautiful colored flowers. To ensure healthy growth of your amaryllis, it is essential to choose the right pot. Here are some tips for choosing a suitable pot:

  • Pot size: Choose a pot that allows the plant to flourish. Make sure that it is about 2 to 5 cm wider than the bulb diameter and that it is equipped with drainage holes to avoid water build-up.
  • Pot material: Prefer terracotta or ceramic pots rather than plastic, as these materials allow better air circulation and avoid root rot.
  • Pot depth: Choose a pot deep enough for the roots to have space to grow, but not too deep to avoid an excess of soil that could keep moisture.

Plant the amaryllis successfully

Once you have chosen the perfect pot for your amaryllis, it is time to plant the bulb successfully. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Preparation of the pot: Fill the pot with a mixture of soil rich in nutrients and well draining. Make sure the pot is clean and has drainage holes.
  2. Bulb placement: Place the bulb in the pot by placing it mid-height in the soil. Make sure the upper half of the bulb stays above the soil.
  3. Watering: After planting, carefully water the plant without saturating the soil. Then reduce waterings to avoid excess moisture that can damage the roots.
  4. Exposure to light: Place the amaryllis in a bright but indirect place, at a temperature of about 20 to 25 degrees Celsius. Avoid air currents and extreme temperatures.
  5. Regular maintenance: During growth, turn the pot regularly to ensure uniform growth. Fertilize the plant every two weeks with a balanced fertilizer for flowering plants.
