Bean sprouts are healthy and delicious foods that can easily be grown at home. Not only are they full of essential nutrients, but they can also bring a touch of freshness to your dishes. Find out how to grow your own beans quickly and easily.

Materials required:

  • Bean seeds (mungo, soya, alfalfa, etc.)
  • A large glass jar
  • A perforated lid or piece of fabric
  • Water

Instructions:

1. Start by thoroughly rinse the beans with clear water to remove any impurities.

2. Place the seeds in the glass jar and add enough water to cover them.

3. Cover the jar with a perforated lid or piece of fabric and soak the seeds overnight.

4. The next day drain the water from the jar by ensuring that the seeds remain inside.

5. Rinse the seeds with clear water and drain them again. Repeat this process twice a day.

6. Place the jar in a dark and airy place, but avoid direct exposure to the sun.

7. After a few days, you will see germs starting to grow. Continue to rinse and drain daily.

8. Once the germs have reached the desired size (usually 3 to 5 cm), you can harvest them by rinsing them one last time before serving them.

Useful tips:

  • Always keep the germs moist to promote their growth.
  • If you notice an unpleasant smell or mould, stop growing germs and discard them.
  • Bean germs can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days after harvest.

By following these simple steps, you can enjoy delicious and fresh bean sprouts grown at home. Add them to your salads, sandwiches or sautéed dishes for a touch of added flavour and nutrition.
