How to grow a guava tree – Multiplication of the guava tree by aerial marcottage
The goyave is a delicious tropical fruit rich in vitamins, and the cultivation of the guava tree can be an excellent addition to your garden. An effective method for propagating guava trees is aerial marcottage, which produces a new plant genetically identical to the parent tree. Here is how to proceed:
Equipment requirements:
- Healthy Guava Tree
- A sharp knife
- Foam
- Plastic Links
- A small transparent plastic bag
- Some soil
Steps to follow:
1. Select a branch:
Choose a vigorous branch of the guava tree that you want to multiply. Make sure the branch is healthy and without signs of illness.
2. Prepare the branch:
In the place where you want to do the aerial marcottage, remove a portion of bark in ring from about 2 to 3 cm wide with a well sharpened knife. Be careful not to damage the wood under bark.
3. Apply foam:
Place damp foam around the bare part of the branch to maintain moisture and promote root formation. Cover the plastic foam to keep it in place.
4. Attach:
Use plastic ties to attach the plastic around the foam so that it stays in place and moisture is maintained. Make sure that the ring cut in the bark is well covered by the foam.
5. Isolate:
Place a small transparent plastic bag on the air marcottage portion to create a greenhouse effect that will promote root formation. Make sure the bag doesn’t touch the foam.
6. Wait and watch:
After a few weeks, roots should start to form at the place where you removed bark. You can check by gently lifting the plastic bag. Once the roots are sufficiently developed, you can cut the branch below the marcottage and transplant your new guava tree into a pot with fresh soil.
Aerial marcottage is an effective technique to multiply guava trees and obtain new plants in a short time. Make sure to take care of your new guava tree by placing it in a sunny place and watering regularly. Soon you can harvest your own fresh guavas in your garden!
