How to make roots from leaves

Multiplication of plants from leaves is a popular propagation method for many plant species, including croton. Here is a step-by-step guide to successful leaf multiplication:

  • Choose healthy leaves: Select healthy, medium-sized leaves for multiplication. Make sure the leaves are intact and not damaged.
  • Remove leaves: Remove the selected leaves from the croton, ensuring that one piece of stem is preserved with each leaf. This will help the root formation process.
  • Place leaves in water: Fill a small container of water and place the croton leaves so that the stems are immersed. Make sure only the stems are in the water, without touching the leaves themselves.
  • Change water regularly: To avoid water stagnation and rot, make sure to change the water in the container every few days. Fresh water promotes root development.
  • Wait for root formation: After a few weeks, you should start to see roots forming along the stems of the leaves. This indicates that the leaves are ready for planting.
  • Transplant into soil: Prepare a well draining soil and plant the croton leaves while covering the newly formed roots. Water slightly to stabilize the plants.
  • Maintenance: Place the croton plants in a bright place but in direct sunlight. Water regularly to keep soil slightly moist, but avoid excess water.
  • Observation: Watch the new plants carefully to make sure they adapt well to their new environment. Remove any damaged or ill leaves to promote growth.
