How to Push a Goyave Tree
Guava is a delicious fruit rich in vitamins, but did you know that you can also grow your own guava tree at home? It is a rewarding and relatively simple experience if you follow the right steps of propagation. Here is all you need to know about the propagation of a guava tree, using aerial marcottage methods or short cuttings.
Air Marcottage
Air marcottage is one of the most effective methods for spreading a guava tree. Here is how to proceed:
- Choose a healthy and vigorous branch of the guava tree that you want to spread.
- About 30 cm from the branch tip, make a circular incision to remove bark.
- Apply rooting hormone to the injured area to promote root growth.
- Wrap the injured area with a damp substrate such as sphagnum and surround it with a plastic film to maintain moisture.
- Wait for roots to form, which can take a few weeks to a few months.
- Once the roots are sufficiently developed, cut the branch under the marcottage area and plant it in a pot with a good soil.
Short cuts
Propagation by short cuttings is another practical method for cultivating a guava tree from scratch. Here are the steps to follow:
- Take short cuttings about 15 cm long from a healthy branch of the guava tree.
- Remove the leaves at the base of the cutting to promote root growth.
- Soak the lower end of the cutting into rooting hormone to stimulate root development.
- Plant the cutting in a pot filled with a mixture of soil and sand, ensuring that only the lower half of the cutting is buried.
- Water the cutting regularly and place it in a bright place but in direct sunlight.
- After a few weeks, roots should start to form, and you can then transplant the cutting into a larger pot.
With a little patience and attentive care, you can see your guava tree flourishing and producing tasty fruit. Remember to choose a sunny location and provide your tree with the nutrients it needs for optimal growth.
