I fed so and my orchid has remained wonderfully healthy for 4 seasons

Orchids are delicate and exotic plants that require special care to fully flourish. After experimenting with different methods, I discovered an approach that allowed my orchid to stay in excellent health for four consecutive seasons. Here’s how I fed and maintained my plant:

1. Choose the right fertilizer

It is essential to choose a fertilizer specially formulated for orchids, rich in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Choose a balanced fertilizer with complementary elements such as calcium, magnesium and iron.

2. Fertilizer frequency

It is recommended to apply fertilizer every 2 to 4 weeks during the orchid growing season, usually from spring to fall. During the winter, reduce the frequency to a fertilizer every 6 to 8 weeks.

3. Dilution of fertilizer

Make sure that the fertilizer is diluted in water according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Too high a concentration may burn the roots of your orchid, while too low a concentration may not bring the necessary nutrients.

4. Application of fertilizer

  • Apply fertilizer preferably after watering, when orchid roots are already hydrated and ready to absorb nutrients.
  • Avoid applying fertilizer to leaves, as this could damage them. Instead, focus on roots and substrate.
  • Regularly clean the orchid pot to remove any accumulated fertilizer residue that could cause problems.

5. Exposure to light

Orchids need light to thrive, but too much direct light can burn them. Place your orchid in a bright place, but in direct sunlight, like near a window facing east or west.

6. Adequate watering

It is essential not to water your orchid too much, as its roots can rot in case of excess moisture. Wait until the substrate is almost dry before watering again, checking the moisture with your finger.

7. Hygrometry

Orchids like humidity, so maintain a humidity level of about 60 to 80%. You can place a water tray under the orchid pot or use a humidifier to increase ambient humidity.

Conclusion

By following these tips and taking a carefully balanced approach to feed and maintain your orchid, you can enjoy a healthy plant that will delight you with its beauty for many seasons to come. Do not forget to regularly monitor the condition of your orchid and adjust your care according to its specific needs.
