Growing plants from branches and leaves: an amazing method
It’s really amazing how plants can develop solid roots from simple branches and leaves. This method of plant propagation is both fascinating and practical for amateur gardeners who want to multiply their plants economically.
Here are some simple steps to grow plants from branches and leaves:
- Choose branches and leaves: Select healthy, unlignified branches and healthy leaves on the parent plant. Make sure they do not show signs of disease or plague.
- Prepare cuttings: Cut the branches with a well-cut secator. Remove the leaves from the lower stem to promote root growth. For leaves, gently remove them from the parent plant while keeping the central vein.
- Root stimulation: Soak the base of the cuttings into rooting hormone to promote root development. Place the cuttings in a light and well drained substrate, preferably a mixture of soil and sand.
- Watering and maintenance: Keep the substrate moist but not wet. Place the cuttings in a bright place, but in direct sunlight. Spray the leaves regularly to maintain a good moisture level.
- Harvest new plants: After a few weeks, you should see new roots on the cuttings. Once the roots are sufficiently developed, you can transplant the new plants into individual pots.
This method of plant propagation is ideal for fast growing plants such as succulent plants, aromatic herbs and some indoor plants. It makes it easy to multiply plants without the need for seeds.
By experimenting with different plant varieties and adjusting growing conditions, you will be surprised to see how rewarding it is to grow your own plants from branches and leaves.
