My technique for growing cucumbers and getting an abundant harvest

Cucumber cultivation can be very rewarding if you follow good agricultural practices. Here is my proven technique to get an abundant harvest of cucumbers in my garden.

Choice of cucumber varieties

It is important to choose cucumber varieties adapted to your region and soil type. Choose varieties resistant to common diseases that produce good quality fruit.

Soil preparation

Before planting your cucumbers, prepare the soil by plowing it and adding organic compost to enrich the soil with essential nutrients. Make sure the floor is well drained to avoid congestion.

Cucumber planting

Plant your cucumbers in full sun in rows spaced about 60 cm. Be sure to plant the seeds or plants at the recommended depth and space them properly to promote healthy growth.

Regular watering

Cucumbers need regular watering to keep the soil fresh and promote fruit development. Water your plants regularly, preferably early in the morning or late in the day, to avoid excessive water evaporation.

Adequate fertilisation

Bring a balanced fertilizer rich in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to feed your cucumber plants throughout their growth. You can also use natural fertilizers such as composted manure to enrich the soil with nutrients.

Protection against diseases and pests

  • Monitor your cucumber plants regularly for any signs of disease or pest attack.
  • Use biological control methods such as crop rotation and companion planting to reduce the risk of disease and pests.
  • In case of infestation, treat your plants with natural solutions such as purin or insecticide soap.

Size and maintenance of plants

Pinch the side shoots to encourage the production of flowers and fruit on the main stem. Keep your cucumber plants well cut and healthy by removing dead leaves and diseased branches.

Harvest cucumbers

Harvest your cucumbers when the fruit is still young and tender for an optimal flavour. Use a sharp knife to cut the cucumbers of the plant and avoid pulling fruit to avoid damaging the plant.

By following these tips and applying my technique to grow cucumbers, you can enjoy an abundant harvest and delicious cucumbers in your garden.
