How to plant Aloe Vera from leaf cuttings

The Aloe Vera is a very popular plant for its many beneficial properties. If you want to grow your own Aloe Vera at home, you can do so from leaf cuttings. Here is a step-by-step guide to planting Aloe Vera from these cuttings:

Materials required:

  • A mother plant of Aloe Vera
  • A clean knife
  • Special soil for cactus or a mixture of soil and sand
  • Terracotta pots with drainage holes
  • Water spray

Steps to follow:

1. Choosing cuttings: Start by choosing healthy, fleshy leaves on your mother Aloe Vera plant. It is best to take cuttings that are about 8 to 10 centimetres long.

2. Preparation of cuttings: Using a clean knife, cut the leaf cuttings near the main stem. Allow the cuttings to dry in the air for one day to form a protective layer at the base.

3. Planting of cuttings: Fill the terracotta pots with the special potter for cactus or the mixture of soil and sand. Make a small hole in the ground using your finger and gently insert the base of the cutting into the ground.

4. Watering: Gently spray water on the earth to moisten the soil without too much wetting it. Aloe Vera cuttings do not need to be watered frequently, it is important to let the soil dry between each watering.

5. Exposure to light: Place the pots in a bright place but away from the direct sun. The cuttings need light to grow, but direct exposure to the sun can burn them.

6. Maintenance: Continue monitoring soil moisture and water your cuttings with Aloe Vera once a week according to the plant’s needs. You can also add a diluted cactus fertilizer once a month during the growing season.

By following these simple steps, you can easily plant Aloe Vera from leaf cuttings and enjoy the benefits of this plant at home.
