Propagating flowers from leaves

Ixora flowers are very popular tropical plants for their beautiful colorful flowers that illuminate the garden. If you want to propagate flowers from Ixora leaves, you can follow a few simple steps to succeed in this process.

1. Preparation of sheets

The first step is to collect healthy, vigorous leaves from a well established plant of Ixora. Choose leaves that show no signs of illness or deterioration. Cut the leaves with a sharp knife to get pieces about 5 to 7 centimetres long.

2. Preparation of soil

Prepare a light and well draining mixture of soil to plant the leaves of Ixora. You can use a mix of garden soil, perlite and vermiculite to ensure good drainage and root ventilation.

3. Leaf planting

  • Fill small pots with prepared soil.
  • Thread the tips of the leaves into the soil, ensuring that each piece of leaf is planted at a depth of about 2 to 3 centimetres.
  • Water the soil slightly to moisten the leaves without drowning.

4. Maintenance of cuttings

Place the pots in a bright but indirect place, at a temperature of about 20-25 degrees Celsius. Make sure the soil stays slightly moist but not wet. Spray the leaves regularly to maintain high humidity.

5. Rooting cuttings

After a few weeks you should start to see roots forming at the base of the leaves. This means that cuttings have successfully taken root. You can then replant them in individual pots with a mixture of fresh soil.

6. Post-replacement care

  • Place the young plants in a bright place but away from the direct sun.
  • Water regularly to keep soil slightly moist.
  • Apply balanced fertilizer once a month to promote the growth and flowering of young plants.

7. Transplantation in the garden

Once the young plants have reached a sufficient size and have developed a good root system, you can transplant them into your garden. Choose a sunny location with a well drained soil to promote the growth and flowering of the plants of Ixora.

By following these simple steps, you can spread flowers from Ixora from successful leaves and enjoy these beautiful plants in your garden.
