Try to grow roots with water

The multiplication of plants can be done in different ways, and one of the simplest methods is to grow roots from cuttings in water. This can be an efficient and economical way to get new plants from those you already own. Here’s how:

  • Choose a healthy plant from which you want to make cuttings. Make sure the plant is healthy, without signs of disease or damage.
  • Prepare a container filled with clean water. Make sure the container is large enough to hold the cuttings without touching each other.
  • Cut a healthy stem of the plant, ensuring that it has at least one or two leaves. Ideally, the cut should be made just below a knot.
  • Remove the leaves from the bottom of the stem, leaving a few leaves at the top so that the plant can continue photosynthesis.
  • Place the stem in the water container, ensuring that the leaves are not completely immersed. Change water regularly to avoid moulding.
  • Place the container in a bright place but in direct sunlight. Roots should start to form within a few weeks.

Multiplication of tree branches

Trees can also be multiplied using cuttings, but the method can vary depending on the tree species you want to multiply. Here are some general tips for multiplying branches of a tree:

  • Choose a healthy branch of the tree you want to multiply. The branch should have good growth and not show signs of disease or damage.
  • Prepare a suitable substrate for cutting. Depending on the tree species, you may need a specific soil or a mixture of sand and soil.
  • Cut the cutting with a clean, sharp pruner. The cutting should be about 10-15 centimetres long and taken just below a knot.
  • Remove the leaves from the bottom of the cutting and coat the cut end with cutting hormone to promote root formation.
  • Plant the cutting in the substrate, ensuring that only the cut end is buried. Water slightly and place the cutting in a shaded area.
  • Keep the substrate moist but not wet, and monitor for new roots. Once the roots have formed, you can transplant the cutting into an individual pot.

By following these simple steps, you can try to grow roots with water or multiply branches of a tree to get new plants. This is a rewarding method that will allow you to increase your collection of plants economically and sustainably.
